ROBBIE WEBBER LEAGUE OPENS

Thousands of youth soccer players, their coaches, officials, parents, and supporters filled the Guam Football Association National Training Saturday for the opening week of the 2014 Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League fall season after a five-month break from the spring season.

PRESS RELEASE – Thousands of youth soccer players, their coaches, officials, parents, and supporters filled the Guam Football Association National Training Saturday for the opening week of the 2014 Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League fall season after a five-month break from the spring season.

“I’m excited that the youth league started again,” said Kyle Potter, who plays for the Orange Crushers U12B team. “It’s so much fun – I look forward to playing soccer again with my friends this season. If we win, it’s great, but even if we don’t, it’s about playing the game and learning.”

Potter, a student at F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School, had tried playing American football and volleyball, but has decided to stick with soccer, a sport he has played since he was four years old. In his team’s opener Saturday, he helped by chipping in a pair of goals.

In U12A division matches, the Wings Red won the spring season final rematch against defending champions ASC Trust Islanders Betde 8-1 led by Niclas Vavra’s four goals. Mark Iseke contributed a hat trick and Taiga Simon also scored. Edward Reyes scored for the Islanders.

Down 2-1 in the second half, the Wings Black crafted a comeback against the Sidekick SC, emerging with a 4-3 victory. Johna Diaz finished with a hat trick for Wings Black and Sho Meyar also scored. Jinae Teria, Bryce Reyes, and Adryan Lujan scored for the Sidekick SC.

Keane Castro’s two goals led the Guam Shipyard Wolverines to a 5-0 win over the Tigers. Shyann Roberto, Kaden Slack, and Nikolai Champaco also scored.

In the U14 division, the Sidekick SC defeated the Southern Cobras 3-1 with goals from Eduardo Tomas Calvo, Tyler Talai, and Auron Eclavea. Alex Jimenez scored for the Cobras.

The Islanders Betde defeated the Wolverines 5-0 led by Shawn Sablan’s two goals. Caylani Estoy, Mia San Nicolas and Adryan Gozum also scored in the win.

The Tigers defeated the Islanders Asut 5-1, led by Yuchan Lee’s hat trick. John Kai Colisao scored the Tigers’ other goals. Kein Artero scored Islanders Asut’s lone goal.

Quality Distributors defeated Community First Dededo Soccer Club 6-2, led by Sam Larkin’s pair of goals. Alan Thomas, Eddie Huang and Ashish Vikraman also scored. Tino Buekis and Russell Calputura, Jr. scored for Dededo.

The Paintco Strykers White blanked their Red counterparts 9-0, led by Xavier Naputi’s four goals. Clayton Mitchell scored twice and Errett Bainum, Vince Cruz, and Aidan Dickson also scored.

In U17 division matches, defending champions Wings Red picked up an 11-1 win against the Wolverines. Kaito Inoue, Isiah Lagutang, Ricky Katsumata, Daniel Kim, and Sashikant Kotwal each scored twice for Wings Red and teammate Ryo Sakane also scored. Joe Sekine scored for the Wolverines.

Spring season runners up Islanders Betde opened the fall season with a 2-1 edge over the Paintco Strykers. Tevin Pangelinan scored for the Islanders. The team’s other goal came on a Strykers own goal. The Strykers’ goal came on an Islanders own goal.

The Southern Heat opened with a 4-1 victory over Dededo. Will Naden scored twice and teammates Riley Jones and Seth Surber scored once for the Heat. Joerowayne Manalo scored for Dededo.

Quality battled to a 1-1 draw with Wings Black. Andrew Baldwin scored for Quality and Eric Kim scored for the Wings.

Before the opening whistle of the first youth league matches, a moment of silence was held in honor of Luca DeLaGarza, infant son of A.J. DeLaGarza, star defender of the Matao, Guam men’s national team and the MLS’ L.A. Galaxy. Luca DeLaGarza passed away recently just a week after birth due to complications from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.
