AMIGOS, CHIEFS IN FINALS

[sixcol_five_last]

In the The Latte Spring League Playoffs the Chalan Pago Amigos overcame the Agat Cardinals defeating them 19-3 Monday night under the bright lights of the Okkodo field. Via the ten-run rule, the game was finished after five-and-a-half innings of play.

The last time these two teams met up, the Cardinals came out on top.  The Amigos almost went undefeated during the season; however, the Cardinals had spoiled their perfect record. But the Amigos would not let them spoil their chance at the championship this time around. The Amigos came back at the Cardinals with retribution.

The Amigos immediately jumped out to a whopping 6-1 lead at the bottom of the second. By the bottom of the third, the Amigos added five more runs to their already demanding lead. Pete Castro Jr., Ryan Castro, and Broad Santos scored the last three runs of the third thanks to a solid line drive three RBI triple hit into right field by RJ Aromin.

The fifth inning again saw the Amigos record four more runs. With the bases loaded, it looked as if Aromin’s hit deep into left field was a homerun, however the blue ruled it a foul ball. An RBI single by Brian Quintanilla brought in Castro, making the score 14-3. For the second three RBI triple of the night, Alan Quintanilla hit deep into center field and thus boosted the Amigos even further from the Cardinals.

The Cardinals scored one run each in the first, third and fourth innings but could not gather enough runs for a comeback.

Since winning the semifinal bout, the Amigos will now face the Agana Heights Chiefs in the best-of-three championship series that begins Wednesday at 7 pm at Okkodo. In the seasonal game between the Amigos and the Chiefs, the Amigos came out with a close 3-1 win.

Winning Pitcher Bruce San Nicolas, pitched all five innings and is the only pitcher in the league who has never lost a game. San Nicolas’s record stands at 5-0.

“Right now, we’re strong, we have all our players, so hopefully we’ll continue to hit like tonight and help the pitchers out,” said San Nicolas.
