MARIANAS PRO KOREA CONCLUDES 2024 TOURNAMENT SERIES

PRESS RELEASE – The Marianas Pro Korea concluded its 2024 tournament with a sold-out event, setting the stage for the highly anticipated Marianas Open International Championship in Guam. Competitors from Guam and the CNMI faced fierce international contenders, showcasing their relentless competitive spirit and securing numerous medals, highlighting the Marianas Islands as a formidable force in the sport. 

Two local gyms made significant achievements in Korea: Machado/Steel Athletics secured 3rd place in the Masters Gi/No-Gi category, while Atos BJJ Guam claimed 3rd overall in the Kids Gi/No-Gi division. The CNMI also stood strong, earning medals in both Gi and No-Gi categories, positioning Saipan as a notable international team. 

As the tour moves back to the Marianas Islands, anticipation builds for the Marianas Open International Championship on October 12th. This grand finale will see athletes from Guam, CNMI, FSM, and Palau competing against top contenders from Japan, the Philippines, Korea, Taiwan, and the US mainland. 

“This is definitely going to be a showdown as we are about to witness history,” said Steve Shimizu. “We are all anticipating the best athletes from across the globe to compete for the title of Marianas Open International Champion.” 

Guam, dubbed “Fight Rock” for the event, will host this prestigious tournament, known for its high standards and inclusivity, offering categories for beginners, intermediates, and professionals. “The Marianas Open has set the stage as the most prestigious tournament in the Asia region, drawing thousands of athletes to compete in Guam’s only 5-star ASJJF (Asian Sport Jiu-Jitsu Federation) sanctioned event,” Shimizu added. 

October’s event promises to be the largest international sporting event in Guam’s recent history. “COVID-19 significantly impacted our tourism industry, but hosting this platform in Guam provides hope for our economy and invites countries worldwide to compete in paradise,” said Shimizu.
