SURFERS GEARING FOR FIJI

PRESS RELEASE – Five athletes will represent Guam in the 2013 Melanesian Surf Cup in Fiji from Dec. 6-8.

Team Guahan Napu comprises of Shane Pier, Derrick Ikehara and Aaron Taylor, who will be competing in the Open Shortboard category; junior female surfer Alison Bowman, who will compete in the Girls Shortboard category; and junior male surfer Jared Brandon Gogue, who will enter the Boys Under-18 Shortboard division.

Each of these surf athletes have won various local surfing competitions as well as exposure in overseas contests.

Joining the team will be Willi Byerly, Guahan Napu president and Gregg Ikehara, vice president. Byerly will serve as the team manager while Gregg Ikehara will be part of the pool of judges. Each participating nation is required to provide a judge.

The Fiji Surfing Association will be holding a two-day judges clinic prior to the competition conducted by an International Surfing Association head judge from Australia.

Other countries competing along with Fiji and Guam are New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Tonga.
