PRESS RELEASE – The head-to-head between the Paintco Strykers and Big Blue on Saturday is a must-win situation for both teams as they battle to stay in contention for the championship title of the 2013 Bud Light Co-Ed Masters Soccer League.

The Strykers, currently with a one-point edge over Big Blue, play their final match of the league at 8 p.m. at the Guam Football Association National Training Center. Including Saturday’s match up with the Strykers, Big Blue has two remaining matches for the season. The Rovers FC, the current league frontrunners, play their final match Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. against Hyundai Family FC, the only team that managed to earn a shutout win over them this season.

In Week 8 matches, the Strykers bounced back from a 1-0 earlier loss to the Rovers and defeated Hyundai Family FC 5-0 to settle into second place in league standings with two more weeks left to play. Makoto Suzuki scored twice for the Strykers and teammates Yuko Morimoto, Jaime Ortega and Rod Hidalgo added to the tally. Morimoto connected on a pass from husband Susumu Morimoto in the 45th minute to score her first-ever goal.

The Rovers, on a four-game winning streak, blanked IT&E/IP&E 7-0 in the night’s late match. Ian Lawton contributed a hat trick in the win and teammates Joe Gallego, Seigo Yoshida, Wayne Darmand and Take Inoue added one goal each.

Co-Ed Masters soccer action continues Saturday with Hyundai taking on IT&E/IP&E at 6 p.m., followed by the Strykers-Big Blue match up.

The season concludes Sept. 7 with Big Blue taking on IT&E/IP&E at 6 p.m., followed by the Rovers-Hyundai match.

There is no admission fee to watch the matches.
