In the Steelers’ first game of the season, the newest BFL team was shutout by last season’s champions, the Angels, 40-0.
Letting loose the first game jitters, the Steelers were able to hold the Angels to just one touchdown in the second half. Angels quarterback John Dillard flicked the ball back to Ryan Bigler who ran the ball in for a 15-yard touchdown. Mike Pangelinan dived on top of a fumbled ball for the extra point and the last score of the game.
In the last few seconds of the game, Bigler intercepted the ball and returned it into the end zone. However, a penalty was called against the Angels, and the touchdown was called back.

In the first half, the Angels scored in the opening minutes off a failed punt attempt by the Steelers. A bad hike caused punter Diamond Iriarte to be taken down at the one-yard line, putting the Angels in good field positioning. The Steelers were able to stop the Angels first attempt into the end zone, but in the ensuing play, Pangelinan punched in the first touchdown of the game.
Dillard connected with the wide open Corey Mitchell, who snuck into the end zone for a 10-yard reception touchdown to make the score 12-0.
Opening the second quarter, the Angels defense forced a safety following Joel Limtiaco’s tackle that put the Steelers at the one-yard line after the kick off.

The Angels hit pay dirt again when Dillard handed off to Limtiaco who ran for about a 30-yard touchdown. Mitchell made the catch for the extra point making the score 22-0.
Issu Mendiola scored a pass reception touchdown with just four minutes left in the half. The extra point was good and the Angels led 30-0 at the half.
The Angels defense proved to be a formidable force despite the scorching heat. They forced two safeties, one in each half and allowed no touchdowns.
