Thanks to a light drizzle over Eagle Field, the hot day cooled down for fans an parents alike to enjoy the game. Playing in rain or shine, the GTA Teleguam Raiders blanked the Cinnabon Island Saints 21-0 Saturday afternoon.

Leading 8-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Raiders’ relentless defense put points on the board again after forcing a safety in the first quarter. The Saints’ quarterback, Daniel Blas, began to move his offense up the field. Blas dropped back looking to pass, but then quickly lateralled the ball back. Raiders Coby Gogue tipped the ball down, and for those of you who know football, when the ball is thrown backward from behind the line of scrimmage, the ball is live if it hits the ground.

After Gogue tipped the ball the Refs did not blow the whistle, but the Raiders and Saints stood, thinking the play was over. Realizing what was happening, Gogue picked up the ball, broke a tackle by Saints defender Curtis Aflleje, and ran in for a 20-yard touch down extending their lead to 14-0.

Opening the second half, the Raiders stuck to their ground game behind runs by Michael Snell, Brandon Salumbides, and Dylan Parke. The Raiders worked their way down the field, but were stopped short of a touchdown as the Saints held them at the 12-yard line, forcing a turnover on downs.

The Saints, deep in their own territory, tried to move the chains tog et out of their own red zone. But on fourth and long, they were unable to convert giving the Raiders possession at the 12-yard line once again. Salumbides scored his second touchdown by rushing in for a 6-yard push into the end zone, running for the same amount of yardage as he did in his first touhchdown. Salumbides also knocked in the extra point marking the final score at 21-0.

The Raiders now improve to five wins, zero losses, and one tie while the Saints drop to two wins, three losses, and one tie.
