Sitting in the middle of the Metgot division standings standings, the 4th placed Cowboys and the 5th placed Raiders faced off in the quarterfinals of the GNYFF youth football league Saturday at Eagle field.

Cowboys’ Gabriel Stanley saved the day with his two touchdowns to lead his team to an 18-6 win, ending the Raiders’ chance at defending their championship title.

Both teams played a well-fought game, though a messy one due to the heavy rain pouring down, but a well-fought game nonetheless. The first half ended in a stalemate, however both teams came out storming in the second.

Noah Diaz returned a 70-yard kickoff return touchdown to open the second half and put the Raiders up 6-0. The ball took a bounce and Diaz booked it down the sideline causing an uproar

Stanley runs out wide and nearly breaks in two different plays but not before being pushed out of bounds by Javier Cruz and Diaz respectively.

Thanks to big runs by Stanley and runs of his own, quarterback Jared Stanley Gomez faked the handoff and ran in for a 12-yard touchdown to tie the game at 6-all.

Stanley would go on to score two 30+ yard touchdowns, running wide and down the sidelines. Stanley had the defense beat in his first touchdown, running in for a 35-yard touchdown. In his second, Stanley ran wide right, but with a defender coming at him at an angle, Stanley cut back in and continued his race to the end zone.

The Cowboys advance to the semifinals and will go up against the first placed Angels next week.
