Jon Delos Reyes is the latest Guam mixed martial artist who has taken his talents to the mainland in hopes of fulfilling his dream as a professional fighter.
Delos Reyes, who holds a 7-1 record, was one of about 250 fighters from around the world who tried out for the UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter 135-lb. program this past week in Las Vegas.
The PXC veteran made it past the first two stages of the process and into the final 50 but did not make the final cut down to 32 that made it into the TUF house.
“I didn’t make it,” the 25-year-old told GSPN. “I made it to the last cut which was the interview part. It was down to the last 50 fighters but they only needed 32 for the House.
“It was so close but it was a great experience. I got to see so much talent in one room and being the last 50 was a big success for me even though I didn’t make it to fight to be in the house. There were fighters from all over the world there. Coming from a small island I believe I did an awesome job. This experience just made me more hungrier and also a eye opener for what I’m capable of.”
Delos Reyes left Guam in January to pursue his dreams as a MMA fighter. He’ll be looking for fights in Utah and California. He said if he doesn’t get any fights any time soon, he’ll concentrate on the BJJ World Championships in June.
JDR follows the likes of Joe Duarte, Jon Tuck, Baby Joe Taimanglo and Ryan Biglar who have ventured to the states to take their fighting skills to the next level.
