In the fight game, losses provide more lessons than wins.
That’s no different for PXC bantamweight fighter Trevin Jones, who will be the lone Guam representative in Saturday night’s PXC 37 in Pasig City, Philippines.
Coming off a unanimous decision loss to Kyle Aguon on PXC 36’s March main event, Jones had to go back to the drawing board.
“It made me more hungry and it made me learn from my mistakes and know different positions in the cage,” Jones said has he jumps right back into action against tough Filipino Troy Bantiag. “(The loss) actually added to my game.”
Known as a stand-up aggressive fighter, Jones didn’t fight his usual style against Aguon. He’s looking to go back to his old ways.
“This fight, I’ll be more hungry,” said Jones, who left for the Philippines on Wednesday in preparation. “Off a loss, you get more hungry. I just want to be more aggressive this fight and let me hands go while standing.”
Jones will have to bring his ‘A’ game against Team Lakay’s Bantiag out of Baguio. Bantiag is a muay thai fighter sporting a 5-1 record and just coming off a TKO win over Guam’s Tony Reyes in PXC 35. His only loss was to Jon Delos Reyes last September.

“I watched a couple of his fights, Jones added. “I know his style, he’ll come hard but I think my style can put him away.”
Jones has cornered for teammates before in PXC’s Philippines fights and knows the unique energy the Filipino crowd brings at Ynares Sports Arena.
“I already know the crowd is different. It’s pretty explosive and it gets to you. I’m looking to take the fans’ energy and turn it to my own, go out there and perform.”
A win Saturday could bring Jones back up for contention for the bantamweight belt. That belt is on the line in the main event with Filipino champion Crisanto Pitpitunge going up against Japan’s Michinori Tanaka. Pitpitunge won the vacant title slot over Justin ‘The Shocker’ Cruz last July but had to serve some time in the Philippines military. It is his first action back since winning the title. Tanaka, a former Shooto fighter, has been on a tear with a 7-0 record.
