POHNPEI – The hosts of the 2014 Micronesian Games wanted to get the opening ceremony off on a high note. Having a man jump out of a plane while having him wave the official 8th Micro Games flag over the crowd of spectators and teams couldn’t kick off the games on any higher note.

Team Guam marched in with all the other eight islands with every intention to take gold in every sport they are participating in.

The ceremony consisted of cultural dancing, songs, and even speeches from Pohnpei’s government officials and heads of the Micro Games administration. The messages were to have fun, be safe, and enjoy the stay on the Island.

A lighting of the Micro Games torch past the team flags was the official send off from the Pohnpei community to all the teams starting Monday morning (an hour ahead is Pohnpei time) with the swimming/tennis events followed by the Men’s volleyball team at 10 am.
