Guam was well represented over the weekend with three fighters from the island making waves in the MMA and Muay Thai scene.
The weekend started off Saturday Guam time with a big win in the young career of Joseph Gogo, who defeated his opponent Marvin Madariaga via TKO doctor stoppage due to cuts. Gogo’s latest win in the Lion Fight Promotions has given an unbeaten (2-0) Muay Thai record.
Later that night, Guam’s heavy weight superstar Roque Martinez only needed one round to gain a victory over in his second One FC fight, submitting his opponent via Americana 4 minutes and 21 seconds into the match.
Finishing off the big weekend for the island was Guam’s UFC fighter in Jon ‘The Heat’ Delos Reyes, who went to battle early Sunday morning Guam time against the home-town veteran Neil Seery. After a solid 1st round of standup from both combatants, Seery snuck in a guillotine choke, his second attempt in the round, to submit Delos Reyes in the 2nd round.
“[Jon] was very strong on his feet. I was surprised how strong he was in those exchanges,” said Seery in his post fight interview.
All of Guam’s fighters received much support on social media with news of each fighters performance flooding the timeline and social feed of friends, family, and fans overall. Congratulations were handed out to the two big winners in Gogo and Martinez, and a resounding wave of pick-me-up comments were handed out to Delos Reyes in his defeat.
Win or lose, Guam’s support for these stars of MMA and Muay Thai was well present.
