PRESS RELEASE – The Guam National Guard (GUNG) will celebrate its 37th Anniversary with its Annual Taotaomona 2K/5K Run/Walk/Stroll on Saturday, July 7. This year’s theme is 37 years of service and sacrifice to recognize what our members do for our island and our nation.
All proceeds benefit the Guard’s Family Readiness Groups and the importance of our spouses and family members who volunteer to take care of the home front (and other spouses and families) when our Soldiers and Airmen are deployed, on annual training or conducting various missions around the world. Our families are a crucial part of the success of the Guam National Guard.
This year’s Guam Guard event feature 2K and 5K distances and will begin and end at the Guam Premiere Outlets in Tamuning. Public parking is available throughout the GPO. Show time is 5 a.m., with a warm-up beginning at 5:45 a.m. The 2K will start at 6 a.m., followed by the 5K taking off at 6:05 a.m.
Dri-fit shirts are available to the first 2,400 registered finishers and are available in adult and children’s sizes. Refreshments will be available and awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in nine categories, including the new addition of a Stroller Division and top three boys and girls in the 2K Youth Division.
Interested runners can register at the Guam National Guard’s Readiness Center in Barrigada, the Air Guard facilities on Andersen Air Force Base, Goody’s Sporting Goods in Upper Tumon and Mark’s General Merchandise in Anigua for $10 per person or $35 for a family of 4. Race day registration is $15 per person.
Volunteers from our Guam National Guard Family Readiness Groups will be out in full force to provide drinks at the water stops along the route.
The public is requested to please drive cautiously as the inner lane of course route, from the entrance of GPO on Chalan San Antonio, Marine Corps Drive, Governor Carlos Camacho Road, and Farenholt Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. until about 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 7.
