News broke early Wednesday morning Chamorro Standard Time regarding the decision to move the 2020 Toyko Olympics back one year to 2021 due to the global pandemic of COVID-19. This puts a speed bump in the road for Guam’s athletes who were vying to represent the island in this years games.
We reached out to Guam’s Olympic Committee for a comment on the matter and what is the next move for Guam’s athletes. GNOC Representative and Lead Doping Control Officer Joey Miranda stated via text messaging:
“As the decision was just announced by the IOC, we will not be able to provide details until we receive information established by the IOC and the organizing committee. Our process my take a while as we are still currently observing the COVID-19 Protocol.”
This is a developing story….
