GLORIFIED 9: AMBROSE VS. CASTRO RESULTS IN A DRAW

MMA veterans battle in boxing match

The highlight match of Glorified Sparring 9 featured MMA veterans JJ Ambrose and Alex Castro in a thee round boxing match Friday evening at a packed Steel Athletics gym.

In special rules that was for all the fights, the bouts are for three three-minute rounds and the only way to win is via knockout or submission. There are no judges so all bouts that go the distance is an automatic draw.

It was a well-fought match between the 35-year-old Ambrose and the long-time fighter Castro, who’s first pro MMA fight was in 2004.

All three rounds mirrored each other with Castro establishing strong, short jabs and solid counters while Ambrose connected solidly with body shots and overhands. None were in serious trouble with Castro probably with the biggest connection in the third round with a roundhouse left that had Ambrose smiling.

It was the third match of a packed martial arts card.
