Sunday is rest day in the Solomon Islands where the 17th Pacific Games are being held.
After the first week of competition, Guam has garnered nine medals so far: three weightlifting gold from Nicola Lagatao, a historic gold in men’s team tennis, two silver from weightlifter Ethan Elwell, a heart-breaking silver from the men’s basketball team and two bronze from weightlifter Jacinta Sumagaysay.
There were a couple of Guam national records broken in the swimming pool, but none were able to step on the podium.
Looking ahead for Week 2
- Tennis singles has Camden Camacho and Fremont Gibson as the only survivors moving on to Monday’s quarterfinals. Guam is still alive in the women’s doubles and men’s doubles.

Some notable sports that Guam traditionally participated in but are absent at these Games are: archery, boxing, golf, judo, table tennis, and volleyball.
