The much-anticipated football showdown between the FD Friars and Guam High Panthers tonight will not happen after all, according to sources close to the teams.

Guam High decided to forfeit its boys volleyball game against the Friars scheduled for the same time, confirmed by Guam High athletic director Ed Paz.

On Thursday, a video of one of the Guam High Panthers players was circulating on social media and other communication apps that stirred controversy and was filled with derogatory words. This heightened an already hyped-up fan base.

The word of the cancellation was officially released to the media by ISA Director Marvin Linder a few hours after the reports of the forfeit hit the streets.

The Friars are riding a record 60-game win streak while the Panthers are coming in with a load of talent that was anticipated to give FD its toughest challenge this season.

Safety concerns based off the circulated video is valid in such a decision. The game was slated to take place on the Guam High School campus in Agana Heights.
