The GW Geckos blew past the Guam High Panthers 36-0 Friday night at the Guam High Field. It was GW’s first game in action after getting a Week 1 forfeit win.
Junior man-child Rayn Rios wrecked havoc on both sides of the ball, scoring two of the Geckos’ five touchdowns.
Wendy’s Player of the Game Rayn Rios
“It left us hungry to play after the forfeit last week with Okkodo,” Rios said on the preparation going into this game.
From the first play it was apparent the Geckos came in to the game to prove a point – the energy from their pregame routine to the first whistle was at 100%.
Rios quickly put the Geckos on the board after a forced turnover on the Panthers’ opening drive.
Jayce Dela Cruz was at the receiving end of a short pass to double the score.
Meanwhile, the Panthers struggled offensively against a staunch GW D. It didn’t help that their starting QB went down to injury, making it that much more difficult to move the ball.
In the second half, Nizyah Untalan picked off a pass up the middle from Panthers QB Colton Engling. Ty James Leon Guerrero ran one in furthering the Geckos lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the 4th quarter, the Geckos defense forced the Panthers offense back into their own end-zone on an electric play by Corey Charfauros for a sack and safety.
Freshman Ashtyn Gumataotao scored the final TD for the Geckos.
OTHER GAME
The other Friday night game had the JFK Islanders blanking the Tiyan Titans 32-0.
