CAMACHO, TAIMANGLO STRIKE LANES AGAIN

The Guam Bowling Congress recently sent a contingent of eight bowlers to compete in the 3rd Formosa International Bowling Classic in Taipei, Taiwan.

Taimanglo shoots perfect game

Two of Guam’s National Team players delivered impressive performances in the Open Division. 23-year-old Noah Taimanglo bowled a perfect 300 game during the second day of qualifying, overcoming a slow start on day one to surge up the rankings and make the cut. Taimanglo finished the qualifying rounds with a 217 average.

Camacho makes the show

Jeremiah Camacho, a 22 year-old southpaw, also advanced to the next round following consistent play across three days of qualifying. Camacho opened with a high game of 278 and maintained a 212 average over the 15-game qualifier. In the 8-game final qualifying round, the southpaw found his rhythm, recording scores of 237, 231, 243, 216, 247, 236, 257, and 269. This resulted in an outstanding 242 average, earning him a spot in the TV finals. Camacho reached the semi-finals but ultimately placed 4th after a tough match against Japan’s Hiroki Tachibana.

Gatan, Park make graded finals

In the Graded Division (200 average or below division), Guam’s Joonsung Park and Ezekiel Gatan both qualified for the top 24 finals. Park qualified in 5th place with a 3288 total over 15 games (219 average). Gatan secured the final spot in the top 24 via the “desperado” round, shooting a 223 in the one-game showdown.

Both bowlers finished in the money during the graded finals, with Gatan taking 11th place and Park finishing 18th. Gatan, a 17-year-old youth bowler, noted that the tournament provided valuable experience and expressed his desire to compete in more international events in the future.

The rest of the contingent from Guam includes head of delegation Joey Miranda, coaches Jay Leon Guerrero and Robert Baker, and players Naiyah Taimanglo, Christof Pineda, Dominic Cruz, and Daniel Lee.
