KOBAYASHI BREAKS RECORD AT CHING INVITATIONAL

PRESS RELEASE – The second annual Edwin K.W. Ching Swimming Invitational has once again made waves, showcasing the remarkable growth of Guam’s swimming community. Among the standout moments, we now have a new Guam national record for the 50-meter butterfly in the 11–12 age category, set by Tsunami Swim Club member Cassey Kobayashi in a time of 32.44 seconds.

She narrowly beat the old record of 32.49 set by Allie Lai in 2008.

Coach Don San Agustin of Tsunami Swim Club shared, “It was just a matter of time. Cassey has been swimming very well and very strong, and we knew it was only a matter of time before she broke this record. We look forward to seeing many more great swims from her in the future.”

This invitational, now a cornerstone of the annual swim calendar, brought together the dedication and talent of athletes from Manhoben Swim Club, Guam Typhoons Swim Club, Marlins Swim Club, and Tsunami Swim Club. The dedication of our athletes, coaches, and supporters has fueled this progress. With each stroke, the future of swimming in Guam looks brighter than ever.

Edwin K.W. Ching shared: “I’m so proud of these kids. All these years that I’ve dedicated to swimming, these moments make it all worthwhile—seeing our community come together and even more, seeing different islands come together. I’m hopeful that this event will only continue to grow.”
