MANHA: COWBOYS BLANK ANGELS 25-0

The 2026 Triple J GNYFF Youth Football League resumed after a couple of weeks on hold after Typhoon Bavi.

In the Manha Division, the Southern Cowboys played one of their strongest performances of the season on Saturday, defeating the Hal’s Angels 25-0 at Wettengel Field. Cowboys running back Atreyu Aflague had a huge afternoon offensively, while the team’s defense helped set the tone from start to finish.

Southern came out hot, putting together a long opening drive behind the runs of Aflague. He picked up 10 yards and added a 9-yard run before their quarterback Derrick Pangelinan powered in from 1-yard out for the first score. Melody Quintanilla converted the one-point try to give the Cowboys an early 7-0 lead.

The Angels tried to answer with runs from Carter Tajalle and Chance Peredo, but the Cowboys defense stood strong, making key stops near the line of scrimmage and forcing a turnover on downs to end the first quarter.

The Cowboys extended its lead in the second quarter when Atreyu broke free for a 24-yard touchdown run, making it 13-0.

Second Half

Southern picked up right where they left off in the second half. Facing a fourth-and-seven situation, the Cowboys came up with a clutch catch to keep the drive alive. A few plays later, Quintanilla broke free for a 30-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 19-0.

They continued to dominate on the ground behind strong blocking from its offensive line. Pangelinan fought for tough yards before Aflague capped off his big game with a 17-yard touchdown run to make it 25-0.

The Angels kept fighting until the final whistle, with Tajalle breaking off a strong run late in the game. But every time the Angels started to build momentum, Southern’s strong defense came up with another stop to seal the 25-0 shutout.

Player of the Game: Atreyu Aflague

Aflague had an impressive game, scoring two touchdowns and making several key tackles on defense. Despite his standout performance, Aflague stayed focused on areas where he wants to improve.

“I think I did good tackling and running the ball,” but he added, “I want to run harder and stop cutting inside too much.” Aflague was also quick to credit his teammates, saying, “They blocked for me and they got the tackles.”

Cowboys head coach Derrick Pangelinan said the win was even more impressive considering the team had only two days to prepare after Typhoon Bavi disrupted practice. Pangelinan said that the Cowboys’ biggest strength is the way they play together and hold each other accountable. “I always tell them it takes a whole team to score, and it takes a whole team to play defense,” he added.

As the season moves toward the playoffs, the Cowboys hope to improve their performance, working towards reaching their full potential.
