The Triple J Blue Jays have done it again, but this time eliminated the Pohnpei Masters to advance to the Recreations Championship of the Guantis Division in the Guam Masters Baseball League playoffs. After five and a half innings of play, the Blue Jays trampled the Pohnpei Masters 15-3 Thursday night at the Paseo Stadium.

The Blue Jays, fresh off a quarterfinal win against Kosrae Masters, were ready to overcome another obstacle in the way of their championship title. Unlike their previous come-from-behind win against Kosrae, the Blue Jays stepped it up a notch, took the lead and never looked back.

The Blue Jays quickly gained a 5-1 lead over Pohnpei, scoring their final runs of the bottom of the first with a two RBI single hit into left field by Richard Manglona.

At the bottom of the third, Zachary Barcinas hit a base hit to left to load the bases. Center Fielder Rodney Downs stepped up to the plate, eager to further his teams lead. Downs whacked the ball deep into the left of center field recording a three RBI double, bringing home Manglona, Dave Afaisen, and Barcinas. By this time, the Blue Jays built up a nine run lead, making the score 10-1.

Midway through the bottom of the fourth, the Blue Jays were up 13-3. The Blue Jays continued to power through offensively, as the ten-run rule did not apply until the fifth inning.

Despite the loss, Pohnpei had a few well-executed bouts defensively, when at the bottom of the second, Pohnpei ended the inning with a 5-4-3 double play.

Winning pitcher Brady James Duff pitched all four innings, gave up three runs and two hits, and delivered eight strikeouts.
