The Little League Regional Baseball Tournament kicked off Wednesday morning with the Senior division of 13-16 year olds hitting the field with the winner of the tournament going to the team with the best record. CNMI defeated Thailand in the early morning 15-0 while Guam easily handled China pouring in an amazing 29-0 performance.

The game got out of hand early for China allowing Guam to score nine runs in the first two innings with the starters having only played the first two innings. Guam proved to be at its best when facing two outs in any inning scoring majority of their 29 runs with an out left in the inning. China did not do a good job at protecting bases early on as most Guam runners were able to steal bases at will.

The fourth inning was dominated by the super subs as Guam’s Jesse Minor let go a 2RBI double which busted open the flood gates putting Guam up 15-0. Minor was then brought in by Sage Afaissen who notched an RBI single with his team needing an out to end their inning. Kel Francisco also brought in a 2RBI’s giving Guam an even bigger 18-0 lead and advanced to second base off a miss handled pass. Putting an exclamation point in the inning was Daniel Cruz, who was pitching for the first two innings, getting a clean 2 RBI double furthering the lead 20-0.

China never got comfortable and did manage to get the bases loaded in the third inning but Guam’s Johnny Aguon managed to keep the home field plate safe by allowing the at bat to sink in a grounder straight to second base securing the out. China only registered hits in the third and fifth inning going three up, three down most at bats.

The 10-run rule was in effect but the game had to go through at least five innings and was extended due to the amount of runs Guam kept scoring. Guam will be facing a fresh Philippine Squad – who sat out with a bye – tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
