DOLPHINS, ISLANDERS MOVING ON

The Southern High Dolphins earned some redemption against the St. John’s Knights by thrashing the defending champions 8-0 in the IIAAG Boys’ Soccer League semifinal game Monday night at the Guam Football Association field in Harmon.
Last season it was the Knights who knocked off the top-seeded Dolphins in a tightly contested championship match.
One year later, however, the Dolphins proved to be a much different squad than the one that came up short in the teams’ previous encounter.
This time the Knights simply were unable to keep pace with Southern’s high pressure offense that was lead by Keith Surber and Donny Reyes. The duo each recorded a hat trick apiece in the victory that propelled the Dolphins to this Saturday’s championship game.
Surber drew first blood early in the game as he blasted in a goal past Knights’ keeper Michael Junmao Wang at the sixth minute. After that goal the Knights’ defense kept the Dolphins in check throughout the first half and the match seemed to have all the makings of another squeaker.

Later in the first half, the Dolphins committed a foul giving the Knights a free kick. The Dolphins regained possession of the ball as Surber received a pass and broke away from his defender. With Wang collapsing on Surber near the box, the senior floated the ball directly over the keeper and recorded his second goal at the 39th minute.
In the second half the Dolphins got untracked and unleashed a barrage of goals that had the Knights reeling until the final whistle.
Riley Jones put the Dolphins up 3-0 when he fired in a nice header off of a corner kick at the 52nd minute.
Reyes followed that up with his first goal of the game at the 60th minute when he fired in a shot from about 10 feet out. With their throng of supporters now cheering on nearly every possession the Dolphins turned up the heat and struck again at the 65th minute when Surber fired in his third goal.
Gideon Tyquiengco got in on the action also when he scored a goal only one minute later and sent the crowd into a frenzy as they knew their team was merely minutes away from another shot at the title. Reyes scored his second goal at the 71st minute and capped it off with another goal at the 75th minute.

JFK 4, Harvest 1
The Islanders successful season continues with a big win over the Harvest Eagles. The win sets up a showdown between the Southern Dolphins, who have had a big year already winning the girls basketball championship and the baseball championship just a weekend ago.
