LEO PALACE PARK- Thursday night at Leo Palace Park the Rays and Agat Cardinals matched up in AAA division Budweiser Amateur Baseball League action. The Rays youth movement would lead the way as the Rays slugged past the Cardinals 16-4 in six innings.
18 year old Billy Quenga and 15 year old Cooper Paulino would share Strike Zone Player of the Game to lead the offense for the Rays. Quenga would finish 3 for 4 with a double, three runs and three rbi and Paulino was a perfect 3 for 3 with three runs, two rbi, walk and stolen base.
The Cardinals who have been riding their own youth movement all season hurt themselves with 10 errors on defense and could never break through against Rays starter John Pangelinan who despite allowing ten hits held the Cardinals to only three earned runs in the game.
The Rays would break the game open in the 4th inning with six runs to take a 10-2 lead. Ryan Palomo and Billy Quenga would chip in with rbi singles and the Cardinals defense would commit four errors in the inning.
The Cardinals would chip away adding runs in the top of the 5th and 6th innings but the Rays would put four more runs on the board in their half of the 6th inning to put the game away and the 16-4 win. Pangelinan picks up the win going all six innings with two strikeouts. The Rays stay atop the AAA division Standings with an 11-3 record.
Nick Sablan, Nick Cruz, Mark Flores and Josh Alerta all had two hits apiece for the Cardinals but couldn’t string hits together to score runs. The Rays defense made the plays on the field committing only one error in the game. Cardinals starter Nick Cruz is tagged with the loss for the Cardinals who fall to 9-6 on the season.
