PALOMO GRABS DOUBLE-GOLD

Guam’s purple belt Drew Palomo is no stranger to the jiu-jitsu scene on Guam and after winning double-gold in the ADCC South Asian Open in the Philippines over the past weekend, he’s becoming no stranger to the likes of BJJ practitioners in the Asia Pacific region.

“I plan to keep up my consistency with my daily training in preparation for more upcoming international tournaments,” said Palomo on what’s in store for his bright jiu-jitsu career.

Palomo admitted that a major component in his success was is conditioning, saying that he felt like he still had a lot of energy even after the tournament while getting each of his opponents to submit.

The intermediate division proved a tough challenge for Palomo after catching his first opponent with a guillotine submission after a close start only had Guam’s ace up an advantage. His final match ended much like the first after tapping out his opponent within the first minute of the match.

Palomo then took the back of both his opponents in the open division forcing them to submit to secure double-gold.

“The experience was great knowing that jiu-jitsu on Guam can compete and win at the international level and in the Asian region,” added Palomo.

Training for the ADCC South Asian Open was a goal Palomo had quickly put work into immediately after the Copa de Marianas tournament in August. There doesn’t appear to be a ceiling regarding how far Palomo can take jiu-jitsu and his work ethic alone sets him in a class high above your everyday average.
