The FD Friars defeated the JFK Islanders Wednesday evening in a battle of the last two unbeaten teams left in Pool A. The Friars win sets up a finals match against Pool B’s top team, the St. Paul Warriors, who earned their spot in the finals last night after defeating the Okkodo Bulldogs.

There are only four more games left in the Tournament with the 7th and 5th place game wrapping up Thursday evening with the 3rd place and Championship game on Friday.

The Sanchez Sharks ended the tournament run for the ND Royals behind a 19-point game from Harold Gaerlan. The Sharks surmounted a double-digit lead in the opening quarter and never looked back as they secured their spot as three-seed in Pool B and will play their final game against Pool A’s three-seeded GW Geckos.

A score deadlocked at 28 at the half turned into the Friars favor quickly in the 3rd quarter. A six point quarter from Friars leading scorer Tony Quinene, who finished with 16, had the Friars up 51-36 heading into the final stretch.
Islander Jerry Ngireremang scored 25 points in the loss, but helped rally the Islanders back after going on an 8-0 on his lonesome, that included to bombs from down town, 57-51 with under two minutes left. The Friars kept attacking the paint and sealed the game from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the win.
