PRESS RELEASE – Joanne Alvarez, a recent graduate of Simon Sanchez High School, recently committed to American International College and will be a member of their Women’s Rugby Program. Joanne will join Keiani Pangelinan, a 2020 graduate of St. Pauls who played for Okkodo Rugby Team, and Shiela Sarmiento, a 2021 graduate of Simon Sanchez, in an ever-growing Guam roster.

Joanne is planning on studying Psychology in hopes to become a Psychologist. Joanne first played rugby in 6th grade for FBLG Middle School, and has participated every year since. She quickly rose the ranks from her freshmen year to become a regular starter on the Sharks 7s rugby program.

Her versatility can be seen by her ability to play numerous positions throughout the season, including Prop, Hooker, and Center. When asked about what is her favorite aspect of playing rugby, Joanne replies, “the bond that grows into family, the amount of commitment it takes to succeed.”

Joanne is the 5th Simon Sanchez Rugby player this year to commit to a collegiate rugby program in order to pursue higher education.
