The Guam boys didn’t lose by 101 points this time, but it was still a huge deficit dropping to New Zealand 125-54 in Day 2 of the 2022 FIBA U15 Oceania Championship at the UOG Calvo Field House.
Height was once again the enemy for Guam as the taller Kiwis scored 98 of their points in the paint. New Zealand’s defense held Guam’s shooting to just 24% while their 2-point shooting was at 77%.
Michael Bork (12 pts) and Noah Tenorio (10 pts) were the lone Guam players to score in double digits.
New Zealand used its bench freely as 81 of its points came off the bench.
Wednesday will feature what is expected to be the first of two meetings between Australia and New Zealand at 4:45 pm. The two powerhouses should meet again in the gold medal game on Saturday. Guam takes on Samoa in the night capper at 7 pm to wrap up their pool play.
OTHER TUESDAY GAMES: Australia 131, Samoa 24; Papua New Guinea 99, CNMI 85
