Guam’s top marathoner sets new PR in Chicago Marathon

Wayne Blas sets a new PR by 10 seconds, finishing the Chicago Marathon in 2 hours, 29 minutes, 38 seconds.

Wayne Blas met up with new world record holder Kelvin Kiptum of Kenya at the Champions Reception of the Chicago Marathon.

The 45-year-old also timed in as the 2nd fastest man Age Group World Championships (M45-49).

“My first Chicago Marathon and Age Group World Championships is in the books! WOW, it’s going to take a little time to process my race today. But in short, I felt great, ran smart and had an amazing day,” Blas posted on his Facebook page. “This race today was very special for me, because it’s the first time all three kids watched me race the marathon.”

Blas averaged 5:39 per mile at 10.61 miles per hour – for 26 miles!

At the Champions Reception later after the race, Blas got a chance to meet Kenya’s Kelvin Kiptum, who set the new marathon world record of 2:00:35
