The Academy Cougars and St. John’s Knights will do battle for the IIAAG Girls Volleyball Championship Monday night after advancing from the semifinals Friday night.
The championship game is slated for 7 pm at the FD Phoenix Center on Monday.
The Cougars cruised by the 4th-ranked Notre Dame Royals 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 while the Knights had a tougher battle on their hands, eliminating the 2nd-ranked Harvest Eagles 25-14, 25-27, 25-19, 30-28 in the Eagles Nest.
In a mild upset, #3 Knights upended #2 Eagles as Knessa Davis had 10 of St. John’s 33 kills.
For the #1 Cougars, Mercedes Mendiola-Cruz led the Academy attack with nine kills. Hinengi San Nicolas added four kills and an outstanding eight aces.
