CAMACHO SIZZLES WITH 68 IN ROUND 2

Jacot with comfortable lead in women’s division

Redge Camacho played a bogey-free, 4-under 68 to take the lead of the 2024 Guam Amateur Golf Championship after Round 2 at the Onward Talofofo Golf Course, while Tyanna Jacot stayed steady with a 74 to remain atop the women’s board.

Camacho got off to a hot start with two birdies right out of the gates. After solid par play, he followed that up with birdies on two of the first three holes on the back side.

The lanky 29-year-old from Barrigada knew he’d shoot low with OTGC being his ‘home course’ where he plays every Sunday.

“I’m glad I got off to a good start,” Camacho said. “The last time I shot in the 60’s here was just a few months ago.”

Right on his tail is defending champion Ivan Sablan just one stroke behind. The 20-year-old Sablan rolled into the clubhouse with an impressive 69 himself, with a round-best six birdies – four of them on the first six holes on his way to a sizzling 32 at the turn.

Sablan cooled off a bit on the backside, but had an impressive drive on the Par 3, 16th that dropped just two feet from the cup for an easy tap-in birdie.

“I don’t have to putt long from there,” Sablan said with a smile.

High school standout Stussy Shiroma quietly climbed to third with an even round 72, while first round leader Eugene Park struggled a bit back to 4th place with a 78.

The final round on Sunday at the Country Club of the Pacific will leave no room for error to see who is the top amateur male golfer on island.

“Yeah I feel the pressure from him,” Camacho said about Sablan right behind. “He’s a great player. It’ll be a good battle tomorrow.”

JACOT IN COMFORTABLE LEAD

The smooth play of Jacot was on display once again in Round 2, despite bogeying three straight holes early on. It was smooth sailing the rest of the way as she goes into the final round with a nice six-stroke cushion.

Veteran Rose Tarpley came on strong with a solid 75. Tarpley’s bogey on the final hole prevented her from taking sole possession of 2nd place.

Youngster Mina Manibusan came into the round just a stroke out of Jacot. She struggled a bit with a 79 and shares 2nd with Tarpley.
