PRESS RELEASE – The Guam grappling community celebrated a historic moment this weekend with the first-ever Grapplers Quest Guam held at the UOG Calvo Field House. The event was free to athletes. Participants enjoyed an energetic event featuring captivating matches, E-games championship rounds, kid-friendly jumper stations, and delectable local cuisine from food trucks and Ignite Juice Bar’s acai bowls.

Spanning a Guam-largest 5,824 sq. ft of mat space and dedicated warm-up mats, the event welcomed grappling enthusiasts of all ages. MMA Superstar Brandon “the Truth” Vera added to the excitement, engaging in 20 exhibition matches with skilled athletes featured in solo brackets.
Day 1 highlighted talent across divisions, including kids and teens in both Gi and No-Gi categories, along with Women’s Gi & No-Gi, and Men’s Gi. Grapplers Quest marked a milestone as Guam’s first entirely free grappling event for all athletes.
Day 2 sustained the excitement with the Men’s No-Gi division, showcasing exceptional grappling skills. In the Men’s Absolute Division, Anthony Cruz claimed the Gold, defeating Mike Shinohara in the final with a score of 6-2.
Competitors earned 173 medals and 6 Team Trophies, which will be personally delivered to their gyms by mixed martial arts legend Brandon “The Truth” Vera and Grapplers Quest founder Brian Cimins.
