An early season showdown, the Harvest Eagles defeated the JFK Islanders 3-1 in the Interscholastic Boys High School Football League at JFK’s Ramsey Field on Monday afternoon.

Before the merger of the ISA and IIAAG into the new league, the Islanders were the reigning ISA champions, claiming multiple titles. The Eagles, known for their strong offense, are making a mark, having been consistent contenders in the IIAAG with several championships of their own.

The game began with both teams fiercely competing for control of the ball. Just a few minutes in, sophomore MinJun Kim scored the Eagles’ first goal.

“Today wasn’t my best because my leg was hurting but I had to remember to keep it 100%, I remembered what the coaches told me: to just be myself and give it my all and that’s what I did,” Kim said.

Not long after, the Islanders gained control and earned a corner kick taken by CJ Sablan. In a scramble in the box, freshman Cole Sablan slid in to score, tying the game at 1-1.

Eagles goalie and captain Josiah Jones made several key saves, showcasing his teamwork and strong connection with his defenders to keep the Islanders at bay.

No more further goals were made and the first half ended with the score tied at 1-1.

As the second half began, the Islanders pushed hard, creating more shot opportunities. However, the Eagles responded aggressively, as Kim sprinted down the field to score again, bringing the score to 2-1.

Despite a few attempts from the Islanders to level the game, their shots either missed the mark or were stopped by Jones and the Eagles defense.

Near the end of the second half, Tran Jack skillfully maneuvered through the Islanders defense and assisted his cover Dixon Winger, who scored the Eagles third goal, leaving the Islanders with little time to respond.

As the final whistle blew, both teams fought hard for more goals, but the Eagles emerged winning the game 3-1.
