The Guam National Tennis Center hosted a first game of the season for the Tiyan Titans as the home team against the JFK Islanders after ISA’s previous week of matchups underwent cancellations due to the exceptionally rainy weather.

The home team’s boys suffered a calamitous loss against the Islanders with a final score of 4 to John F. Kennedy’s 32. Contrarily, the Titan females are able to celebrate a scarce victory with a concluding score of 23 – 22.

Through the great loss from their male athletes, the disciplined Titans showed optimism to improve for the season. Both teams kept in constant check with their coaches to take note of any last-minute improvements just before their matches as well as sitting to hear what they need to fix based on the completed matches for the day.

Tightly knit as both teams are, Tiyan’s coach Kendra Byrd shares that this kind of optimism and positive partnership is important for all the athletes to improve their skills in the sport and enjoy their time while doing so.

The Titans’ upcoming meet will take place on Thursday, February 1. Tiyan will again be at GNTC at 4 pm, but this time facing the Okkodo Bulldogs. The Islanders’ next meet will take place at JFK’s home courts on Monday, January 5, against the Sanchez Sharks at 4:30 pm.
