The four-time reigning champion Father Duenas Friars kicked off their first rugby game with a powerful win over the Sanchez sharks 26-3 Wednesday night at the Guam High field.

Shane O’Mallan scored two out of the four tries for the Friars. O’Mallan’s teammates Ian Castro and Ethan San Nicolas each scored a try of their own to aid FD’s victory.

Both teams battled it out the first 10 minutes of the half with each team going back and forth between possessions.

Ian Castro was the first to put points on the board for the Friars, scoring the first try of the night on a huge 60-yard dash to the house. Castro’s try and a made conversion put the friars up 7-0.

O’Mallan scored his first short try towards then end of the first half alongside another made conversion to increase the lead to 14-0 into the halftime.

The opening of the second half showed no difference for the Friars as O’mallan doubled up another short try to give his team a larger lead. Together with the third made conversion, put FD up 21-0 against the Sharks.

The Sharks were able to add points to their side of the board off a made penalty kick by Andrew Siroma leaving the score at 21-3.

The Friars still had plenty of gas in the tank for one more try as Ethan San Nicolas surpassed the Sharks defense. FD lost the opportunity to make a conversion due to not providing the kicking tee in time ending the game 26-3.
