Academy controls four-time champ Notre Dame

The high school varsity rugby action continued Saturday morning into late afternoon at the John F. Kennedy field. The day was filled with three matches for the boys and 12 for the girls under the blazing sun.

The Academy Cougars went 3-0 in the girls 7s matches.

Featured Game

In our featured game of the day, the Academy Cougars sped past the Notre Dame Royals 27-0 early into the afternoon.

The Cougars showcased their speed on the pitch leaving the Royals unable to catch up.

Academy displayed ball control and tough defense to open the first half. Serenity Sulla zoomed to the house for the Cougars putting them at 5-0.

The Royals attempted to move the ball down the field, but the Cougars swiftness guided their second try scored by Kwinn Rios.

Mia Topasna ended the short seven-minute first half with another quick try and the first made conversion to put the Cougars up 17-0.

The Royals adjusted their defense in the second half, but it was too late as the Cougars managed to squeeze in another pair of tries from Kwinn Rios and Lola Rosario.

The Cougars remain undefeated at 5-0 and the Royals fall to 2-3.
