The Southern Dolphins surged ahead of the Academy Cougars with a couple of second half goals to steal a big Friday night game in the Interscholastic Girls High School Football League matchup at JFK’s Ramsey Field.
In a battle of talented teams jockeying for the second place slot behind the front-running JFK Islanders, the Cougars jumped ahead in the first half behind a goal from scoring machine Hinengi San Nicolas.
Southern, however, responded with a defensive gem in the second half while Cindy Maestrecampo and Joelee Mansapit punched in the tying and game-winning goals.
The Dolphins improve to 3-1-0 with their only blemish to the unbeaten Islanders, while Academy suffered its second loss of the season to drop to 3-2-0.
