Reigning high school baseball MVP Peter Concepcion hit a solo homer and starter Javier Taimanglo tossed five steady innings in the Tiyan Titans 7-3 win over the GW Geckos Thursday evening.
Players of the Game: Tiyan’s Javier Taimanglo and Pete Concepcion
Concepcion, Tiyan’s leadoff hitter, connected off of GW starter Theo Jones on a 1-2 count with a blast over the right field fence. The solo shot gave the Titans a comfortable 6-1 lead in the 4th inning.
Taimanglo gave up two unearned runs in five solid innings of work. Concepcion came in relief and gave up an earned run. He struck out five in the two innings, including all three batters he faced in the 7th and final frame.
Concepcion, Ka’noa Cepeda, Jestin Lujan and Xavier Sablan all had three hits for the Titans.
The Titans secured the 3rd spot in the upcoming playoffs, finishing their season at 7-2.
The Geckos need help to get into the semifinals. They would need the Southern Dolphins to lose or tie the unbeaten Notre Dame Royals on Saturday. If the Royals win, GW would snag the 4th place slot
