METGOT PACKERS DOMINATE EAGLES 39-0

Opening day of the 2026 Triple J GNYFF Youth Football League Guam saw several teams make strong first impressions, including the Metgot Packers. Taking on the Eagles at Mangilao Field, the Packers dominated from start to finish, earning a 39-0 victory Saturday afternoon.

First Half

The game quickly swung in favor of the Packers after the Eagles mishandled their opening possession, resulting in a fumble that gave the Packers excellent field position, jumping out to an early lead.

While the Eagles showed moments of promise, penalties repeatedly stalled their progress and made it difficult to build momentum. The Packers took full advantage, controlling the line of scrimmage and continuing to add points throughout the first half.

The Packers’ defense was just as impressive as their offense. One of the game’s biggest defensive plays came during the Eagles’ second possession when a Packers defensive back intercepted a rollout pass and returned it deep into Eagles territory, setting up another scoring opportunity. By halftime, the Packers had built a 27-0 lead.

Second Half

Coming out of the break, the Packers stayed in control despite rotating players and giving others a chance to see the field. While the Eagles showed determination throughout the second half, the Packers maintained the same level of intensity that helped them build a big first-half lead.

The season-opening victory gives the defending champions a strong start as they look to make another run this year, while the Eagles will look to learn from the opener and make adjustments moving forward.

Player of the Game

One of the biggest contributors to the Packers’ success was 10-year-old Izaiah Gogue, whose versatility allowed the team to stay organized and effective throughout the game

According to Metgot Packers Head Coach Wesley Lane, Gogue’s ability to step into multiple roles proved invaluable throughout the game.

“One of the things Izaiah did really well for us was being able to step up big time,” Lane explained. “He played outside linebacker, inside linebacker, defensive end, tackle, running back, and tight end. It’s that utility he has as a player that really helps contribute and set us up for big plays.”

Lane also gave credit to the Eagles for continuing to compete throughout the game despite the score. “They did pretty good with the blocking,” he said. “They kept trying to score and put us through a hard time.”

As for Gogue, who is entering his final season in the Metgot Division before moving up to Matua next year, his goals remain simple. “I’ll try to score touchdowns and help my team make it to the top,” he said.
