OUTLAWS DOMINATE ANGELS IN MATUA REMATCH 38-0

It was supposed to be a big showdown between two teams that met in the Matua division championship a year ago.

It turned out to be a sleeper as the Outlaws totally controlled the Hal’s Angels 38-0 Saturday afternoon in Week 2 of the Triple J GNYFF Youth Football League at the UOG Field.

The Metgot division provided the highlight of the afternoon, with the Angels trailing 19-13 until the final play. Sage Verango completed a near 60-yard touchdown pass to Xayden Keezel to tie the game at 19-19. Verango finished off the game with an extra point run conversion to win the game for the Angels, 20-19.

In the Matua division, the Outlaws dominated from the start. Quarterback Willis Nickepwi opened with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Y’Napu Aguon. The momentum continued with Joe Fausto’s 26-yard touchdown run and another Nickepwi scoring strike to Raymond Omapas for 49 yards. Rio Reyes added a 47-yard score off a hook-and-ladder play to give the Outlaws a 26-0 lead at halftime.

The Angels’ defense tightened in the third quarter with an interception by Jace Diego and a fumble recovery by Barrett Copp. However, the Outlaws added two more touchdowns in the final quarter, including a second score by Reyes, to finish the game 38–0.
