ALVAREZ HR SPARKS BRAVES WIN OVER MARLINS

PRESS RELEASE –  The Guam Masters Baseball League (GMBL) in action over the weekend, with a four-game schedule on Saturday, April 06, 2013 at Paseo Stadium.

 Pat Alvarez started the offense for the 76 Braves when he hammered a two-run home run in his first at bat in the top of the first inning against Maimai Marlins’ starter Tommy Duenas. He ended up going 2-for-4, driving in three, and scoring three runs as the Braves took the 14-5 win over the Marlins. Rick Tedtaotao was 3-for-4, with three RBIs, and three runs scored. Carl Pecha went 2-for-4, with two RBIs, and two runs scored. For the Maimai Marlins, Vince Aguon was 2-for-4, with a double and a run scored. Vince Meno went 2-for-4, and scored two runs.
In other games, the Triple J Blue Jays took care of the Kosrae Masters, 11-3. Triple J’s Paul Untalan going 3-for-3, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Ed Chaco was 3-for-4, two doubles, and two RBIs. Kosrae’s Tedson Timothy was 2-for-3, with an RBI. Peter Nedlic went 1-for-3, an RBI, with a run scored.
The Asan Rai held off the Pohnpei Masters, 9-7. Asan’s Albert Padua going 2-for-3, with an RBI, and a run scored. Bruce Fejeran went 2-for-3, with an RBI, and a run scored. For Pohnpei, Alex Peterson went 1-for-3, an RBI, and three runs scored. Johna Joel was 1-for-3, an RBI, and a run scored.
The Agana Heights Cougars stopped a Yona Red Hawks rally to take the 16-12 win. Bert Sablan led the way for Agana Heights going 2-for-4, a triple, three RBIs, with two runs scored. Ken Mariano was 2-for-4, an RBI, and scored two runs. For Yona, it was Romeo Soulik going 2-for-4, a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.
The GMBL continues on Monday, April 08, 2013, at Paseo Stadium with a double header starting at 6 p.m.

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
