CRUSADERS STAY UNBEATEN

The undefeated Barrigada Crusaders faced off against Haggan in Tuesday night Leo Palace/Jim Beam Amateur Baseball action.  Looking for their third straight win to start the season the Crusaders would jump out early and hold off a late Haggan rally to take a 7-4 victory behind the strong pitching of Sage Afaisen.latte-baseball

Haggan starter Kris Cruz walked three straight Crusaders to start the game and TJ Leon Guerrero and Eriz Lizama had back to back rbi singles for the Crusaders to put three quick runs on the board in the first inning.  A nice double play by Haggan 2nd baseman Tony Borja helped keep the Crusaders from scoring more runs.

Haggan would get on the board in the top of the 2nd inning with Kenny Francisco reaching on a hit by pitch and coming in to score on a bases loaded walk to Josh Naputi cutting the Crusaders lead to 3-1.

However, the Crusaders continued to rally in the bottom of the 2nd inning with Jonaven De la Cruz driving in Eddie Garza and Jon Sablan who had both walked and gave the Crusaders a 4-0 lead after two inning.  Crusader’s bats would stay hot in the 3rd inning as well with Brandon Leon Guerrero rbi double driving in Zac Bukikosa.  Leon Guerrero would also come in to score on a wild pitch staking the Crusaders to a comfortable 7-1 lead after 3 innings.

The Haggan offense would show signs of life in the top of the 4th inning with Jaylon Alvarez reaching on an error and coming around to score on a PJ Quintanilla double cutting the Crusader’s lead to 7-2.  Haggan would continue to chip away in the top of the 6th inning taking advantage of a hit batter and 3 walks to push two runs across to cut the score to 7-4.

That was as close as Haggan would get as Crusader’s reliever Clayton Cruz would retire Haggan 1-2-3 in the 7th inning to give the Crusasders a 7-4 win.  Haggan drops to 1-2 on the season with Kris Cruz picking up the loss.  Crusader’s starter Sage Afaisen gets the win and SZ POG honors going six innings allowing only four hits and two earned runs while striking out five.  Crusaders stay perfect at 3-0 atop the Jim Beam Amateur Baseball League standings.
