RANGERS, CRUSADERS STILL ROLLING ALONG

PRESS RELEASE – The Jim Beam Amateur Baseball League played triple headers Saturday and Sunday with a thrilling Sunday nightcap between the Talofofo Rangers and Chalan Pago Amigos capping a great weekend of baseball at Leo Palace Resort.

Yona Redhawks 7, 691 3latte-baseball

Jim Beam Amateur weekend action kicked off Saturday 12 pm with the Yona Redhawks(4-1) taking on “691”(2-3).  Redhawks starter Salvador Delfin would hold “691” to three earned runs over seven innings to get the Redhawks the win and pick up Strike Zone Player of the Game.

Ryan Palomo and Zachary Castro had two hits each for the Redhawks who win their fourth straight to improve to 4-1 on the season.  Patrick Ladore was 2 for 4 with a double in the loss for “691” who drop their 3rd straight game and fall to 2-3.

 Barrigada Crusaders 14, Asan Guns 4

The Saturday 3pm matchup featured the Asan Guns(1-6) and the undefeated Barrigada Crusaders(7-0).  RJ Santos would contribute 5 strong innings on the mound and Deshon Naputi would pick up Strike Zone Player of the game going 3 for 3 with three runs, two rbi, stolen base and a walk as the Crusaders took the win 14-4.

The Crusaders pounded out fourteen hits as a team with Kaleb Cruz, Jonoven De la Cruz, Kin Fernandez and Naputi collecting multi-hit games.  The Crusaders stay perfect at 7-0.  Hank Salas turned in a solid game all round game allowing only five earned runs in six innings on the mound and picking up two hits at the plate as the Guns fall to 1-6 on the season.

 Talofofo Rangers 10, AMO Cardinals 2

The Talofofo Rangers and AMO Cardinals faced off in the Saturday nightcap and the Rangers would keep pace with the Crusaders, cranking out 13 hits in a 10-2 win.  Robbie Rabago picks up the win and Strike Zone Player of the game going the distance allowing only two earned runs with 8 strike outs.

The Rangers improve to 6-0 on the season keeping pace with the undefeated Crusaders atop the Amateur Standings.  The AMO Cards still look for the first win of the season as they fall to 0-7.

Blue Jays 8, Yona 6

The Blue Jays (5-2) matched up with Yona (2-5) in the Sunday noon game at Leo Palace and would win their 3rd straight game with starting pitcher Jay Cing picking up his second win of the season and going 3 for 4 at the plate to pick up his 2nd Strike Zone Player of the Game award this season.

The Blue Jays improve to 5-2 banging out 15 hits as a team with three hits a piece from the Santos brothers-Donovan, Brian and Keith.  Yona drops to 2-5 on the season despite two hits each from BJ Quenga, Cody Terlaje and Ray Asuncion.

Sakudee 11, Haggan 10

Sakudee (4-3) and Haggan (2-5) matched up in the Sunday 3pm game with Sakudee rallying late in the game for a 11-10 come from behind win.  EJ Lizama picked up Strike Zone Player of the Game going 4 for 4 with three runs and three stolen bases.

Sakudee improves to 4-3 with six player picking up at least two hits.  Vic Fernandez would pitch a scoreless 4-5-6 innigs to pick up the win.  Haggan pounds out 15 hits but falls to 2-5 on the season

Talofofo Rangers 7, Chalan Pago Amigos 6 

The Amigos(4-4) and Rangers(7-0) would cap of the weekend in style with a nail biter in the Sunday nightcap.  The Rangers would come out on top against the defending champs and move into a tie with the Crusaders(7-0) atop  the standings.  The Ranger’s starter Johnny Tenorio would pick up his second win and SZ POG limiting the Amigos offense to four earned runs on seven hits and striking out eleven.

The Rangers would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with Angelo Taijeron coming into score.  Amigos centerfielder Florencio Binuya would squash the Ranger rally with a laser throw from mid centerfield nailing the runner at the plate .

The Amigos would answer with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first to take the lead 3-1 with a Zach Quintanilla two rbi triple igniting the rally.  The Rangers would add another run in their half of the second inning with Derek De la Cruz coming into score on an error cutting the Amigos lead to 3-2.

The Amigos would add two more runs in the bottom of the third inning with a double from Pete Castro Jr and single from Zack Quintanilla again leading the rally, giving the Amigos a 5-2 lead after three innings.

The Rangers would break it open in the top of the 4th inning pushing 5 runs across on five hits to take back the lead 7-5.  Derek de la Cruz and Nathan Duenas each picked up their second hit of the game in the rally.

The Amigos would try to answer in the bottom of the fourth and score one run on a rbi double from Rayzor Quintanilla cutting the Rangers lead to 7-6.

The Amigos would turn to their bullpen and Paul Campos who would blank the Rangers over the last three innings to give the Amigos offense a chance to comeback.  However, Rangers starter Johnny Tenorio settled into a groove matching Campos over the final three frames allowing only one single to the Amigos to close out the game and give the Rangers the win 7-6.

The Amigos even their record at 4-4 on the season with the loss.  The Rangers move to 7-0 and atop the Jim Beam Amateur standings having scored more runs than the Crusaders.
