PRESS RELEASE – The Jim Beam Amateur Baseball League @ Leo Palace Resort played two games Saturday on Easter Weekend under beautiful blue skies.
Talofofo Rangers (3-0) 12 Blue Jays (2-1) 5
The Talofofo Rangers and Blue Jays matched up in Saturdays 3pm game as two of the last three undefeated teams in the league. The Rangers didn’t wait long to jump on the Blue Jays with a six run rally in the bottom of the 2nd to take control of the game and hold on for a 12-5 win.
The Rangers would start the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning taking advantage of a 2 out Blue Jay’s error and a Conan De la Cruz rbi single to take the 1-0 lead. Zachary De la Cruz would keep the Rangers offense rolling in the bottom of the 2nd yanking a ground ball down the 1st base line for double. The Rangers would then take advantage of four walks and a hit batter to score six runs and jump out to a 7-0 line after only two innings.
The Rangers would stretch the lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning with singles from Shaun Santos and Angelo Taijeron. The Ranger’s would keep the pressure on in the bottom of the 4th scoring three runs with singles from Andrew Concepcion, Amos Taijeron and Nathan Duenas leading the offense and giving the Rangers a big 11-1 lead after four innings.
The Blue Jays would continue to scrape away at Ranger’s starter Robbie Rabago scoring two runs in the top of the 5th with another big two out hit from Blue Jays centerfielder Jerrett Blea cutting the Ranger’s lead to 11-3.
The Rangers would add insurance in the bottom of the 5th inning with Andrew Taijeron coming in to score after a leadoff triple pushing the Rangers to a 12-3 lead.
The Blue Jays would try to mount a comeback in the top of the 6th inning scoring two runs and cutting the lead to 12-5 before finally chasing Rangers starter Robbie Rabago who would give way to the bullpen. Rangers reliever Frank Santos would close out the Blue Jays getting the final out to give the Rangers’s the 12-5 win.
Rangers starter Robbie Rabago picks up the Strike Zone Player of the Game as the Rangers stay unbeaten at 3-0. The Blue Jays get their first loss of the season and fall to 2-1.
‘691’ (1-0) 11 Agat Reds (1-3) 10
Saturday Amateur action continued with the 6pm nightcap with the Agat Reds taking on “691”. “691” a late added team to the league would score seven runs in the last two innings to comeback for a thrilling 11-10 win.
“691” would start their season hot with back to back singles by Broad Santos and Albert Alex off Reds starter Latte Hubbard giving them a 3-0 lead after one inning. “691” would add another run in the top of the 3rd inning with Santos again starting things off with a single, stealing second and coming in to score on a Nate Eisel rbi single giving “691” a 4-0 lead.
Jacob Castaneda would get the Reds started in the bottom of the 3rd with a leadoff single. Davey Pecha would reach on an error and John Quenga would cap the rally with a 2 rbi double tying up the game 4-4. The Reds would continue to rally and take a 7-4 lead going into the 6th inning with another rbi single from Quenga and a rbi triple from Vance Kinishi sparking the rally.
The 6th inning is when things get interesting. In the top of the 6th inning team “691” would score five runs with two walks and rbi singles from Ermerson Peiso and Waitrik Souwelian giving “691” a 9-7 lead. The Reds would answer right back in their half of the 6th inning with Davey Pecha completing a 3 for 3 night with a double in the right center gap tying up the game at 9-9. The Reds would have scored more runs if not for a brilliant back to the plate diving catch in centerfield by “691” Georgie Katau.
“691” and Katau would stay hot in the top of the 7th inning with Katau leading off the inning with a single. “691” would use a couple walks and a hit batter to push two runs across and steal an 11-9 lead.
The Reds of course would make it interesting in their half of the 7th inning with leadoff hitter Vance Kinishi collecting his second hit of the game and coming in to score on a “691” error. But that was all the Reds would manage as “691” reliever Brod Santos closed out the inning to give “691” a thrilling 11-10 come from behind win.
The Reds drop to 1-3 with the loss and “691” moves to 1-0. Georgie Katau earns Strike Zone Player of the Game with his defense in center and 1 for 1, 2 run day at the plate.
Leo Palace/Jim Beam Amateur Baseball League action takes a week break but will be back April 11th Thursday when the Blue Jays (2-1) take on the unbeaten Barrigada Crusaders (3-0).
