In the 12 pm Saturday game Yona would give the Chalan Pago Amigos all they could handle but  would fall one run short as the Amigos would take a close 6-5 win.  Amigos’ reliever Florencio Binuya would enter the game with the tying run on 3rd base and the winning run on 2nd base and strike out the last two Yona batter to pick up the save and preserve the win for the Amigos.

Alan Quintanilla was 4 for 4 picking up the Strike Zone Player of the Game as the Amigos improve to 5-4 on the season.  Peter Cruz was 3 for 4 for Yona who fall to 2-6.

Agat Reds 8, Yona Redhawks 3

The Agat Reds would pull off an upset taking down the 3rd place Yona Redhawks 8-3 behind a 1 hitter by Red’s starting pitcher Roy Gamboa.  The Reds would score 5 runs in the 3rd inning to break open the game behind the hot bat of Davey Pecha who was 2 for 4 with a double and triple in the game.

Roy Gamboa would go the distance allowing only 1 hit in 7 innings as the Reds improve to 3-4 on the season and move into the 7th playoff seed.  The Redhawks pick up their 2nd loss of the season falling to 5-2 on the season but maintain the 3rd seed in the playoff hunt.

 Barrigada Crusaders 6, 691 4

In the Saturday night cap the undefeated Barrigada Crusaders narrowly escaped their first loss of the season with a 6-4 win over “691”.   The Crusaders would take the lead with a five run third inning with consecutive hits from Eddie Garza, Kaleb Cruz and Nate Cruz igniting the rally.

Garza picks up Strike Zone Player of the Game going 1 for 2 with a run and stolen base as the Crusaders remain unbeaten at 8-0.  691 drops their 5th straight game despite a quality performance from Yuber Souwelian who allowed four earned runs in seven innings but 691 can’t find the offense and fal to 2-5 on the season.

Talofofo Rangers 9, Sakudee 5

Sunday amateur baseball action started with a great game between undefeated Talofofo Rangers and Sakudee.  Sakudee would jump out to a 5-0 lead but the Rangers would chip away and catch Sakudee with five runs in the bottom of the 6th to take a 9-5 come from behind win.

Andrew Taijeron ignited the Rangers offense going 3 for 4 including a clutch single to start the 6th inning game winning rally.   With the win the Rangers keep pace with the Crusaders on top the amateur standings.  Sakudee evens their record at 4-4 with sole possession of the 6th seed.

AMO Cardinals 5, Haggan 3

The Agat Mayors Office Cardinals still looking for their first win of the season faced off against Haggan in the 3pm Sunday matchup.  The AMO Cards would rely on their young players with starter Austin Sablan dominating on the mound and Vince Santos contributing 3 hits at the plate as the Cards took down Haggan 5-3.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
