PRESS RELEASE – The Chalan Pago Amigos advance on to the Amateur Division Championship Series with a hard fought 8-5 win over the Talofofo Rangers Tuesday night at Leo Palace Stadium.
In a game that had all the atmosphere of a elimination playoff game the Rangers and Amigos played scoreless through 5 innings with Amigo’s starter Paul Campos and Ranger’s starter Johnny Tenorio matching each other frame for frame.
The Amigos Keith Castro would get the Amigos on the board in the bottom of the 5th inning with a two rbi triple to right center driving in Andy and Rayzor Quintanilla. Castro would come in to score on an rbi single by Alan Quintanilla giving the Amigos a 3-0 lead after 5 innings.
The Rangers would answer right back in the top of the 6th inning with Fernando Rabago and Frank Santos Jr leading off with back to back singles and Nathan Duenas following with a rbi triple. Conan De la Cruz would drive in Duenas with a rbi sac fly to tie up the ballgame 3-3. Terrance Pablo would continue the rally with a single to right field and Ray Aguon would reach by hit by pitch. The Rangers would take the lead with Andrew Concepcion singling to drive in Pablo and Carlo Naputi would cap the 5 run Rangers rally with an rbi groundout driving in Aguon giving the Rangers a 5-3 lead.
Down 5-3 the Amigos would show why they are defending Amateur Division Spring Champions and the #1 seed in Leo Palace Baseball League Amateur Playoffs. With one out leadoff hitter Aleton Mesgnon would bomb a shot to center over the centerfielders head for an inside the park homerun to cut the Rangers lead to one run. Andy Quintanilla would follow with a single and Rayzor Quintanilla would walk to set up Pete Castro Jr would tie up the game with a rbi double to right centerfield just out of the reach of a diving Jose Santos. Rayzor Quintanilla would then come in to score on a wild pitch giving the Amigos a 6-5 lead. Keith Castro would continue the Amigos rally with a walk followed by a hit by pitch to Florencio Binuya. Alan Quintanilla would seal the Amigos win with an rbi single driving in Binuya as time expired giving the Amigos a 8-5 win and a spot in the Amateur Championship Series.
Paul Campos picks up the win for the Amigos and BJ Libby gets the loss for the Rangers. The Amigos advance to play the winner of the Semifinal matchup between #2 Sakudee and #3 Haggan. The Amateur Division Championship Series is scheduled to start Thursday night 7pm at Leo Palace Stadium.
