BULLDOGS TOP ISLANDERS

[sixcol_five_last]

By Robert Balajadia

It was raining cats and Okkodo Bulldogs Friday in Dededo and the John F. Kennedy Islanders forgot to bring their rain gear.

The Bulldogs won no games in the regular season last year but have come firing out the gates this season after defeating the Islanders 15-0 putting in an impressive 2-0 start. Okkodo failed to score an offensive touchdown against the Southern Dolphins in the season opener off a punt returned for touchdown by Calvin Muna.

Muna topped off his previous return with a more electrifying one against the Islanders in the third quarter that seemed to suck the life out of the JFK. The Islanders were struggling all game on third down which resulted in the punt. Muna made the most of his opportunity when he caught the punt, switching fields while breaking off an Islanders defender in the process. The crowd began to roar with excitement as Muna juked his way around a couple more defenders before taking off, capping the amazing play.

Coach Danny Cepeda said his team was going to put up more points than their previous outing as some of the players needed to settle into the offense. Quarterback Kyle Cruz was on point laying out two passes to receiver Evans Lee Jr. who could not corral it in the end zone due to great rain defense by mother nature.

Cruz was able to find running back Jacob Sanchez in the end zone for the games first touchdown.

The Bulldogs will play host to the Sanchez Sharks next Friday as they look to continue their hot streak. The Islanders will challenge the Friars, who are coming off a bye, next Saturday.
