The SSFM Hal’s Angels Metgot division ousted the Southern Cowboys 19-6 on a windy, rainy Saturday afternoon at the mud-filled UOG field. The sun shone for instances of the game, but the unrelenting wind and rain always came back.

Despite being transported off the football field two weeks ago in an ambulance, the Angels’ running back, Jacob Herring, went back to business.

Herring was key in the Angels’ win as he contributed two touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards on 15 carries.

“That kind of scared me because I thought I wasn’t gonna play football anymore, but I guess the Lord allowed me to get better,” said Herring, who was temporarily paralyzed from the injury.

It was as if nothing happened. In the second quarter, Herring returned an interception for a 52-yard touchdown, running into the end zone untouched.

“The receiver went out and the quarterback threw it to him but it was too short, so I jumped up for it, got it, and ran it back.”

The Angels moved the ball down the field off crucial runs by Herring, Kobe Cox, and Daelin Campos.

The speedy Herring struck again in the third, running in for a 23-yard touchdown thanks to excellent blocking by the linemen.

“I would like to thank my coaches, my offensive line, and the Lord for allowing me to score.”

In the first quarter, Angels’ quarterback Cole Palomo ran in for a one-yard touchdown to put his team up early in the game. Palomo connected with Tyler Pangelinan for the one-point conversion making the score 7-0.

The Cowboys only touchdown from the Cowboys’ go-to man Javen Aflague. Aflague broke a few tackles in the backfield, and went on to score a 52-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

The Angels now improve to 6-0-1 while the Cowboys drop 4-2-1 in their last regular season game.
