Fans filed into the Guam High football field and filled the stands and sidelines to watch the teams in a rematch of last season’s championship game as they hashed it out in IIAAG high school football action.
After four quarters of play, the Guam High Panthers defeated the GW Geckos 19-8 on the Panthers home field Saturday night. Scoring a touchdown in each of the first three quarters, the Panthers walked away with the victory.
In the third quarter, the Panthers moved up the field at a rapid pace. With six minutes and 51 seconds left, Damian Dimmick sped out to the right, and behind the excellent blocking of Tegan Brown, ran into the end zone to score the final touchdown for the Panthers, extending their lead 19-0.
Panthers quarterback Lordan “LJ” Aguon was key in their win as he ran his offense with precision passing and also contributed a touchdown.
“I owe it all to the line, they did a lot better than the last game. I appreciate all their blocks for me. And I appreciate my receivers catching the ball for me. They did a great job. I did my best to get the ball to them, that’s how it all works.”

Brown scored the first touchdown of the game, putting Guam High in the lead and the PAT was converted making the score 7-0.
“I feel good about our performance, we could do a lot better though,” said Aguon.
The Panthers utilized their passing game, throwing to the sidelines and gaining seven or eight yards on the play to quickly move the chains up field. Conversely, the Geckos were having a rough time converting on their passing game.
After many close encounters at the Panthers goal line, the Geckos were finally able to put points on the board late in the fourth. Adrian Cruz came up big on a crucial play, catching an 18-yard pass under the pressure of two Guam High defenders, moving the ball to the Panther’s 5-yard line. At third and goal at the one-yard line, Joseph Carreon ran into the end zone on a quarterback sneak for their only touchdown of the game. Carreon connected with Fram Leon Guerrero for the two point conversion to make the score 19-8.
The Panthers remain perfect with a 3-0 record while the Geckos drop to 1-1. The Geckos, though going through a rebuilding year, look to protect their title as last year’s champions. The Panthers on the other hand, were the champs in 2010, and aim to take back the title that was taken away from them last season by the Geckos.
Friars 28, Islanders 6
FD picked up its first win of the season as quarterback Tyler Okiyama threw for two long scores to Bryton Cepeda and ran another TD. Cornerback Nate San Nicolas returned an interception for a touchdown as well as the Friars get set for a big showdown against the Geckos next Saturday night.
